In 1892 the village was incorporated and named Tinley Park, in honor of Samuel Tinley, Sr., the longtime Rock Island station master. Tinley Park developed as an agricultural service center. In 1869 a grain elevator opened, and a Dutch-style windmill was constructed in 1872.
